How to Bring a Grace Group to Your Local Church

What is a Christian mental health (discipleship) support group?

A Christian mental health support group is a faith-based community where people experiencing mental health challenges can find encouragement, practical tools, and supportive relationships grounded in both biblical principles and evidence-informed mental health practices. Mental Health Grace Alliance describes its groups as more than traditional support groups—they are discipleship-oriented growth experiences designed to help people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges while growing in faith and resilience.

Participants engage in guided discussions using a workbook curriculum, learn practical wellness and recovery skills, and connect with others who understand their experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

Are Mental Health Grace Alliance groups online or in person?

Mental Health Grace Alliance offers both online and in-person Christ-centered groups. Individuals can join local groups meeting in churches, homes, ministries, and community settings, or participate in online groups that connect people from around the world. The organization maintains directories for both local and online options.

Are Mental Health Grace Alliance groups therapy?

No. Mental Health Grace Alliance groups are not therapy groups and are not intended to replace professional counseling, medical care, or treatment. Instead, they are peer-led, discipleship-based support groups that complement professional mental health care. Many participants attend groups while also working with counselors, therapists, psychiatrists, or other healthcare professionals.

Mental Health Grace Alliance specifically states that its resources and groups work in harmony with professional and medical intervention and are designed to provide community support, practical tools, and spiritual encouragement alongside appropriate clinical care. (See full disclaimer).
